Fighting cell phone addiction? Not me...

You should also think about your cell phone use if you are neglecting real social contacts or your hobbies.
Cell phone use is so high, especially among young people, due to platforms such as Instagram, TikTok, Snapchat, WhatsApp and many other apps, that studies in Germany classify more than three percent of 12 to 17-year-olds as cell phone addicts.

5 tips - how to fight your cell phone addiction

The following measures can help with nomophobia or cell phone addiction:

  • Slowly wean yourself off your cell phone! Going “cold turkey” from your cell phone is not advisable and usually not possible.
Resolve not to use your cell phone for a certain period of time!
Start with a few minutes and build up slowly.
  • Silent messages: We unlock the screen more than 80 times a day. Mute your notifications! This way you are not constantly tempted to check them.
  • Set response times for your notifications! Only reply to emails and messages within a precisely defined period of time.
  • Consciously set a cell phone-free time! Whether on vacation, at the weekend or in the evening – set a specific time when you don’t use your cell phone!
For example, hand it over to someone you trust during this time.
  • Switch off your smartphone! If you switch off your cell phone from time to time, you will realize that it is not essential to your survival.
You may then rediscover the joy of your hobbies and real contacts.
